To address the negative impact of climate change on food security, livelihoods, and nature conservation, the European Union – Resilience Against Climate Change (EU-REACH) project facilitated the training of Agricultural Extension Agents in Conservation Agriculture to promote climate-resilient agricultural practices and systems.
A five-day programme was held at the Centre for No-Till Agriculture in Amanchia, Ashanti region. It offered practical training to the second cohort of agents on the need for adopting optimal agricultural practices to help rejuvenate farmlands and enhance yields with little to no fertilizer.Conservation Agriculture is a farming system that helps to improve and sustain the productivity of farmland in an environmentally friendly and profitable manner. This climate-smart farming system is guided by three interlinked principles: minimum soil disturbance, permanent soil cover, and crop diversification.
If not practiced sustainably, agriculture can have a toll on the environment, and contribute to climate change.
