The Sustainable Development Goal Project 1 (SDGP1) supports youth and women fruits and vegetable farmers in adopting climate-smart agricultural practices.

Solidaridad West AfricaIn Kubua local government area of Kaduna state of Nigeria, Solidaridad West Africa has mobilized 152 women and 276 youths to benefit from the project, this is in addition to 90 men from eight different communities.

The mobilized farmers will be trained on climate-smart agricultural practices, supported with hybrid varieties of seeds, and linked to markets for the sale of their produce for improved income.

Also, Solidaridad West Africa will introduce the farmers to the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA), an initiative supporting smallholder farmers to increase household financial assets and decrease household vulnerabilities.

Solidaridad West AfricaIn partnership with East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer and other organizations, Solidaridad West Africa implements the SDGP1 in Kaduna and Kano states.

The project is transforming the fruits and vegetable market in the two states and the entire country. It supports farmers to enhance their income and welfare through improved yields.

The Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken (Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs) funds the project through the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) as its contribution to achieving food security and private sector development.
