Yam farmers in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region are grappling with severe financial strain as prices hit record lows, prompting fears that many may abandon farming altogether.
They said the drastic drop has made it nearly impossible to recover production costs, let alone make a profit, leaving many farmers frustrated and desperate.
The farmers are appealing to the government and stakeholders for urgent intervention, including market infrastructure development, price control measures, and other initiatives to stabilise the yam market and safeguard livelihoods in the municipality.
