Mr Owusu Banahene, the Sunyani Municipal Director of Agriculture has advised farmers to register with the directorate to benefit from the government’s free distribution of hybrid coconut seedlings for plantation.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani, Mr Banahene explained that the government was implementing the PIAA through the Ghana Coconut Federation (CocoFeG) with funding from the Ghana Exim Bank.
He said coconut farming remained a lucrative enterprise with ready markets, and urged the unemployed youth to register and benefit from the programme and to enhance their livelihoods.
“We expect that coconut farmers prepare their lands for cultivation because the government will distribute the free hybrid coconut seedlings very soon”, Mr Banahene advised.
He said hybrid coconut seedlings had good harvest and advised the interested farmers to register with their Ghana Cards and to benefit.
Mr Banahene also called on the CocoFeG to facilitate the release of the coconut seedlings to enable the farmers to plant them in the right season.
