The Agricultural Development Bank – Ghana (ADB) has presented an amount of GHS1,000,000 to the Ministry of Foods and Agriculture (MoFA) in support of the 40th National Farmers Day Celebration.
The cheque is expected to be awarded to the 2024 National Best Farmer, at an awards night on November 8, 2024, which would be held at Alisa Hotel, in the Greater Accra Region.
The 40th edition of the National Farmers Day Celebration is on the theme, “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security.”
The celebration is an annual event to celebrate farmers for their invaluable contribution to the development of the country.
The ADB has been the lead sponsor of the celebration for the past years.
Mrs Eno Ofori-Atta, Deputy Managing Director, ADB PLC, reiterated the commitment of the bank to enhancing investment in the agricultural sector to adapt farming systems to climate change, improve food security, provide raw materials to agro-based industries and create employment to the teaming youth in the country.
She said the bank was committed to providing the pledged amount to the 2024 National Best Farmer for investment in technologies aimed at enhancing productivity and fostering adaptation to climate-related risks.
Mr Yaw Frimpong Addo, Deputy Minister for Crops, MoFA, and Chairman of the Planning Committee, expressed appreciation to the ADB PLC for being the lead sponsor of the celebrations for the past years since inception.
The deputy minister said the diverse roles each individual played from ADB PLC in the agricultural sector were significant contributors to the growth of agribusiness in Ghana.
He said the Planting for Foods and Jobs 2.0 (PFJ 2.0) initiative represented a significant advancement in Ghana’s agricultural sector with emphasis on input credit.
Mr Addo said as an agriculture-oriented bank their involvement underscored the critical role of the private sector in supplying essential inputs for both commercial and smallholder farmers
“I have great confidence in this team to successfully advance the PFJ 2.0 initiative and achieve its objectives by 2028.”
“I believe that ADB will continue to grow, as more farmers transition from smallholder to medium and large-scale operations, thanks to the strength and dedication of this team,” he added.
