Almosi Valley – a living agricultural heritage system

The Almosi Valley in Tajikistan, recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS), is a living example. Here, traditional practices – from herding Hisori sheep and cultivating Toifi Pink grapes to beekeeping – support sustainable rural livelihoods, protect biodiversity, and keep cultural traditions alive. By valuing and protecting such agricultural heritage, we can build a more resilient and inclusive future while safeguarding the world’s rich food cultures.
