The Reverend Martin Amenaki, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North, has encouraged young people in the Municipality to take advantage of skills development opportunities to establish businesses and improve their livelihoods.
He made the call when he joined the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the Ketu North Municipal Assembly at a two-day technical skills training workshop in cassava and rice processing for the youth.
The training, held from August 23 to 24 at the Ketu North Municipal Assembly Hall, was organised by the Mastercard Foundation through the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) under the BizBox Project.
The workshop formed part of efforts to equip young people with practical skills and knowledge in agro-processing to enable them to explore employment and entrepreneurship opportunities within the agricultural value chain.
Rev Amenaki urged participants to take the training seriously and apply the knowledge and skills acquired to improve their living conditions and contribute to the socio-economic development of their communities.
He said acquiring technical and entrepreneurial skills was crucial in empowering young people to become self-reliant and create employment opportunities for themselves and others.
The MCE reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to youth empowerment and entrepreneurship development and announced that beneficiaries of the training would receive starter kits to help them establish their own businesses.
According to him, the intervention would enable participants to translate the skills acquired into viable income-generating ventures.
“We remain committed to empowering the youth for a better and brighter future,” Rev Amenaki said.
Some participants who spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed appreciation to the organisers, saying the training had enhanced their knowledge and practical skills in cassava and rice processing.
They expressed optimism that the starter kits would enable them to put the acquired skills into practice and establish sustainable businesses to support themselves and their families.
The participants also encouraged other young people to take advantage of similar opportunities, stressing that skills development and entrepreneurship remained effective tools for addressing unemployment and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
