The Blue Food Futures Fellowship empowers early-career researchers dedicated to advancing the role of blue foods in global food systems transformation. This program strengthens the link between science, policy, and action in blue food research, supporting innovative ideas that address pressing challenges in food, climate, nature, and social equity.

Blue Food Future Fellowship ($10,000 in research funding)Fellows receive a six-month research stipend based at their home institution to support place-based research and policy engagement. They also receive mentorship from global blue food experts and potential opportunities to present research at international scientific and policy fora. Over the course of the grant program, fellows will connect with a global network of blue food researchers, policymakers, and practitioners.

Eligibility

  • Open to early-career researchers, professionals, and practitioners from academia,
    government, NGOs, and the private sector.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an active interest in the following topic areas: (1) Blue food pathways and interactions with climate and biodiversity goals (2) Sustainable, equitable, and resilient blue food transitions, (3) Engagement and nutritional implications of small-scale fisheries participation in global trade.
  • Received a PhD in a related field within the last five years, or PhD candidates close to
    completion of their degree are eligible.
  • This fellowship will be conducted at the fellow’s existing research institution. The fellow
    must be available for virtual meetings with the research team as well as partners that are geographically distributed, which may include hours outside of a regular workday in a given location.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and fluency in English. Professional
    fluency in additional languages is desirable.
  • Superlative interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter who can manage multiple projects simultaneously, work independently, and
    collaborate as a member of a team.
  • Preference for candidates with direct experience working in locations classified as
    developing nations.

The cover letter must address 1) your past academic research and relevant work experience; 2) any previous involvement in broader impact activities relevant to the scope of the Blue Food Futures Program;
3) your statement of interest in the BFFP Research Grant Program and how you envision it
furthering your career; and 4) a description of how your skills, expertise, and networks can help drive this project forward.
