TIA has established the Women Technology and Innovation Programme (WTIP) to advance the strategic intent of the 2019 White Paper on Science, Technology and Innovation on promoting transformation with the National System of Innovation. In this, TIA aims to address the underrepresentation of women in the technology and innovation sector, increasing their participation and ensuring that innovation is also used to address their challenges.
TIA invites applications for technology-based solutions that address challenges faced by women in the following areas: maternal health, sanitary health, gender-based violence, reproductive health and any other challenge peculiar to women that can be addressed through an innovative solution.
Funding
This is a competitive Call, and the best solutions will be recommended for funding. Applicants that are shortlisted will be invited to pitch their solutions to a panel of judges. Solutions will be funded up to a maximum of R200 000
Eligibility
Applicants who want to receive funding or support through WTIP must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be a South African citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Company registered and domiciled in South African.
- Applicants who have innovative and locally developed technology solutions requiring early-stage de-risking, demonstration or support for market uptake.
- Only women are eligible to apply under this Call.
Qualifying Criteria
The proposed solution must meet the following minimum requirements:
- The proposed solution must be new or improved with clear proof of concept.
- It must respond to the identified need with a clear demonstration of potential customers and route to the market.
- It must address either a social need or economic impact.
- The solution is innovative, technology-based, feasible and require further development and testing of either a product, process or service
