As part of the International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026, the FAO Regional Office for Africa is inviting submissions of good practices that advance gender equality and women’s empowerment in agrifood systems.
The call seeks evidence-based, innovative and scalable experiences that have demonstrated results across the thematic areas of the CFS Voluntary Guidelines on Gender Equality and Women’s and Girls’ Empowerment (VG-GEWGE), including women’s economic empowerment, leadership and decision-making, access to productive resources and services, digital inclusion, social protection, climate resilience and other priority areas.
The call aims to identify, document and share evidence-based good practices and innovative approaches that have effectively advanced gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment in agrifood systems. Selected practices will inform a sourcebook for policymakers, practitioners, development partners and other stakeholders, highlighting lessons, enabling factors and potential for replication or scale-up.
Priority thematic areas
Good practices should address one or more of the following VG-GEWGE thematic areas:
- women’s and girls’ food security and nutrition;
- women’s and girls’ full, equal and meaningful participation in leadership and decision-making;
- women’s economic empowerment, access to labor market and decent work, entrepreneurship and financial inclusion;
- women’s and girls’ access to and control over natural and productive resources, including land, water, fisheries and forests
- women’s and girls’ access to extension advisory services, and ICT-based, digital and innovative technologies;
- access to social protection and food and nutrition assistance;
- recognition, reduction and redistribution of unpaid care and domestic work;
- elimination of gender-based violence in the context of food security and nutrition; or
- gender equality and women’s empowerment across food security and nutrition in conflicts, humanitarian crises and emergencies.
Eligibility
Submissions are invited from governments, civil society and women’s organizations, producer organizations, research institutions, development partners, United Nations agencies, financial institutions and private-sector organizations working in Africa.
What we they looking for
Strong submissions will clearly describe the gender inequality addressed, the approach used, the groups reached and the results achieved. Preference will be given to practices that:
- demonstrate measurable results supported by evidence or documented experience;
- show clear relevance to the VG-GEWGE;
- identify success factors, challenges and lessons learned; and
- have potential for sustainability, replication or scale-up.

Attach or link relevant supporting evidence, where available, and confirm that necessary permissions and consent have been obtained for any quotations, photographs or participant stories.
