Mr. Seidu Issifu, the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, has visited the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project Phase II (GPSNP2) site at Nabdam in the Upper East Region.
This forms part of his ongoing tour of Northern Ghana to advance climate action, strengthen resilience and sustainable development at the local level.
A statement issued by the Office of the Minister of State, said the visit also formed part of the Minister’s engagements with communities and local stakeholders to promote the integration of climate change considerations into development planning and implementation.
It said during the visit, Mr. Issifu received a briefing on the project’s progress and interacted with officials, implementing partners and community members.
Mr. Issifu commended the project’s contribution to improving livelihoods while stressing the need to ensure that development interventions were designed and implemented in ways that enhanced environmental sustainability and built resilience to the increasing impacts of climate change.
He emphasised that achieving Ghana’s climate and sustainable development objectives required stronger collaboration among government institutions, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), traditional authorities, development partners, and local communities.
He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to mainstreaming climate change across local development initiatives, noting that climate resilience must become a central pillar of planning and investment at the district level.
The Minister’s visit to the GPSNP2 site reflects the Government’s determination to promote climate-resilient development by supporting projects that strengthen livelihoods, protect the environment, and enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities across the country.
