Africa’s food system is full of potential, yet constrained by gaps in production, processing, logistics, nutrition, and market access. The Food Systems Innovation Challenge identifies and supports early-stage innovators developing practical, scalable solutions that strengthen the entire value chain.

  • Agricultural Production – Solutions improving farming practices, inputs, climate resilience, and productivity.
  • Food Processing & Value Addition – Innovations that enhance food safety, extend shelf life, and create value-added products.
  • Supply Chain & Logistics – Tools that strengthen storage, transport, market linkages, and distribution systems.
  • Food Waste Reduction – Models that reduce post-harvest losses, recycle waste and promote circularity.
  • Nutrition & Consumer Food Solutions – Products or platforms improving nutrition access, affordability, and food choices.

Eligibility

  • The challenge is open to early-stage innovators, startups, researchers, youth-led and women-led teams working to solve critical food system challenges.
  • If you are developing a viable and scalable solution that improves how Africa grows, processes, transports or consumes food, you are invited to apply.
