Mr Seidu Issifu, Minister of Climate Change and Sustainability says Ghana needs innovative technology, capacity, and funding to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
He stated that the country was witnessing the impacts of climate crisis including shift in rainfall pattern, dry spells and high temperature in all sectors eroding development gains.
Mr Issifu said this when Mr Daniel Krull, the German Ambassador to Ghana, paid a courtesy call on him on Tuesday in Accra.
The visit served as an opportunity for the two to discuss Ghana’s climate agenda and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The discussions underscored the shared commitment of both countries to tackling climate change and promoting sustainable development. The meeting ended on a positive note, with both leaders expressing optimism about future collaborations to build a greener and more resilient Ghana.
Mr Issifu who welcomed the Ambassador expressed gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with international partners.
“My office is open and committed to fostering deeper partnerships that will enhance Ghana’s resilience against climate change,” Minister Issifu stated.
“We need to work together to ensure that adaptation and mitigation efforts effectively address the vulnerabilities affecting our people and environment.”
Ambassador Krull congratulated Mr Issifu on his historic appointment as the first Minister of Climate Change and Sustainability, describing it as a bold and visionary move by the President John Dramani Mahama.
“This appointment demonstrates Ghana’s commitment to tackling climate change with a dedicated and strategic approach,” said Ambassador Krull.
“Germany remains a strong partner in this journey, offering support through financing facilities and initiatives that promote climate resilience and sustainability.”
During their discussions, the two leaders reflected on the longstanding cooperation between Ghana and Germany, particularly in areas of climate adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable development.
Ambassador Krull highlighted Germany’s various financing mechanisms and initiatives aimed at supporting climate action in Ghana.
He expressed his country’s readiness to work with the Minister’s office in addressing climate vulnerabilities through joint programs and capacity-building efforts.
