EXPRESSION OF INTEREST: RAISING OF SHEA AND NON-SHEA SEEDLINGS

Global Shea Alliance (GSA)The Global Shea Alliance (GSA) is partnering with the Forestry Commission (FC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ghana, to implement the Ghana Shea Landscape Emission Reductions Project (GSLERP) in the Northern Savannah Zone (NSZ) of Ghana. GSLERP seeks to enhance forest carbon stocks across the northern savannah landscape by addressing the deforestation and forest degradation challenges across the zone, while promoting investments in the shea value chain and women’s empowerment.

The Global Shea Alliance is implementing component 2.1 and 2.2 which will ensure the restoration of 100,000 hectares of degraded shea parklands through the planting of 3,500,000 shea seedlings and 480,000 native tree seedlings as well as the development of sustainable sourcing partnerships between private sector and shea producing communities. The GSA is implementing this through public private partnerships as well as the procurement of seedlings from accredited nurseries for planting.

This Call
The GSA is inviting qualified applicants to submit expression of interest to supply shea and other native tree seedlings from accredited nurseries as part of the project. The expression of interest should include the following:
• Company details
• Past experience in seedling supply
• Knowledge of the landscape
• Knowledge of nursery establishment

Eligibility Criteria
Prospective applicants can be non-profits or private businesses that have experience in seedling supply

The application process involves two stages:

• Stage 1: Applicants in Ghana who have experience in establishing well-structured
nurseries and raising shea and non-shea seedlings, parkland management, and knowledge of the northern savannah zone (NZS) of Ghana should first submit Expression
of Interest (EOI) to the GSA detailing their experience and qualifications.
• Stage 2: Non-profit organizations or private businesses, whose EOIs pass, will be invited to
present a composite proposal, workplan and budget.
