This call aims to support efforts to increase forest cover in Ghana with the ambition that the grant scheme as a whole contributes to restore 5 000 hectares.

Grant Scheme for Forest Landscape Restoration Activities Ghana With this call, the aim is thus to develop capacity of farmers and rural people to restore degraded forest landscapes with the ambition that the grant scheme as a whole will reach 20 000 individual farmers.

Grant 

Contribution between EUR 200.000 and EUR 800.000

Eligibility

  • At least one participating entity is a farmer- or community-based organisation registered
    by the local statutory departments in Ghana.
  • All participating entities are a legal entity (legal person) registered in Ghana by an
    instrument governed by the national law of Ghana.
  • All participating entities are registered in Ghana as a not-for-profit entity by the
    relevant statutory authority.
  • Coordinator has experience from the last three (3) years in implementing a grant
    funded restoration project with a budget of the same or greater amount than the
    grant that the applicant is applying for.
  • At least one of the participating entities has an active presence in the proposed
    project area(s) through members of the farmer or community-based organisations
    being located in the proposed project area.

I. Administrative information
▪ Application Form – Part A, using template provided in annex 1
â–Ş Documentary evidence as proof of compliance with eligibility criteria E1-E5

II. Technical description
▪ Application Form – Part B, following template provided in annex 2
The length of the technical description must not exceed 10 pages, excluding
appendices and annexes, and shall be submitted in one single PDF document (this
does not include the instructions and guidance provided in annex 2).
Technical Description shall be written in English.

III. Budget and requested grant
▪ A summary budget using template provided in annex 3 and a detailed, activitybased budget using the applicant’s own template.
The budgets should be submitted as excel spreadsheets.

• Font: Calibri
• Font size: 11 pt (except for tables and figures where it should be minimum 10 pt)
• Line spacing: 1
• Orientation: Portrait. For tables or any Gantt/pert chart, landscape orientation can be used if
necessary for the purpose of fitting of the tables or for legibility.
• Page size and margins: Page size A4, all margins (top, bottom, left, right) should be at least 1.5
cm (not including any footers or headers)

Award Criteria

A1. Excellence

  • Relevance of the project to the restoration needs of the targeted ecological
    zone and to the current context of forest landscape restoration in Ghana.
  • Complementarity and/or coordination with relevant development programmes/other initiatives.
  • Gender and youth considered in the design of the project

A2. Impact

  • Contribution to expanding or enhancing areas of restored forest and building capacity of farmers.
  • Contribution in respect to building and disseminating knowledge on best
    practices and enhancing dialogue between different stakeholders

A3. Implementation

  • Quality and coherence of the work plan, including the extent to which the resources (budget and people) and tasks assigned are in line with the objectives of the activities.
  • Effectiveness of restoration approach (site, species, expertise, innovations)
    to achieve the intended results and objectives.

A4. Sustainability

  • Promotion and encouragement of local ownership and farmer investment in restoration.
  • Effectiveness of approach to sustaining both the capacity of farmers and
    restoration of forest.
