A quiet revolution is taking root in the Oti Region as the Iseguri Initiative launches a mission to secure the future of local agriculture.
By distributing cashew and cocoa seedlings to the Asomdwe Smart Climate Change group, the initiative is introducing sustainable conservation practices to help farmers combat the growing threat of climate change.
At a recent handover ceremony, Municipal WIDA Officer Miss Rejoice Selorm Azameti said the success of the crops depends on diligent care, especially as the harsh dry season approaches.
She urged local stakeholders, including charcoal burners, hunters and palm wine tappers, to act as stewards of the land, emphasizing that preventing bushfires is essential to protecting the new crops and ensuring the long-term prosperity of the region.
Project Coordinator Mr. Raymond Buami credited the program’s success to a partnership with Madam Eva Lydeking, whose support has been vital in bringing climate-smart agriculture to smallholder women farmers.
Representing the Asomdwe Smart Climate Change group, Miss Bintu Siyorke expressed gratitude for the initiative and called for the program to be expanded to benefit more communities across the municipality.
