Farmers at Koase in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region have appealed to the Government to include the 30.2-kilometre Odumase-Badu Road in the ongoing ‘Big Push’ road infrastructure programme.

The farmers told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a visit to the area that the condition of the road, whose rehabilitation began in 2023, had deteriorated significantly and become largely unmotorable, particularly during the rainy season.

They said improving the road, which links Badu, Nsawkaw and several other towns and farming communities, would facilitate economic activities and accelerate development in the area.

Mr Kwadwo Tweneboa, a cashew farmer and Organiser of the Mimshack Cooperative Cashew Farmers and Marketing Society Limited at Koase, said the poor condition of the road was affecting transportation and commercial activities.

He explained that many farming communities along the road corridor were located within the Boffourkrom enclave and appealed to the Government to, at a minimum, reshape the Odumase-Boffourkrom stretch to improve accessibility.

Mr Tweneboa said the cooperative society had about 150 members, comprising 70 women and 80 men.

He also appealed to the Government to establish a cashew processing factory in the area and introduce a fixed pricing mechanism for cashew to improve the incomes of farmers.

The farmers expressed the hope that the inclusion of the road in the ‘Big Push’ programme would enhance access to markets, reduce transportation costs, and support agricultural productivity in the area.
