The leadership of the Western North Regional office of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has paid a courtesy visit to Mr Wilbert Petty Brentum, the Western North Regional Minister, to discuss matters of mutual interests.
The visit highlighted initiatives aimed at improving the lives of cocoa farmers and demonstrating COCOBOD’s commitment to their well-being.
Mr Jerome Sam, Head of Public Affairs for COCOBOD, who led the delegation said the Board was focused on resolving key issues bothering the cocoa sector, while supporting community development.
“COCOBOD is ready to enforce financial discipline to sanitise the sector, so we appeal to farmers, stakeholders, and the people of the region for their cooperation to strengthen and improve the cocoa industry in the country,” he said.
He stated that the new cocoa marketing price would significantly improve upon the lives of farmers by increasing their incomes and lead to better living standards, and investment in sustainable farming practices.
The Regional Minister, on his part, deemed the visit appropriate, and said it fostered a positive relationship between COCOBOD and the Regional Coordinating Council.
Mr Brentum said better prices of cocoa would improve upon the lives of farmers and attract more youth into the cocoa industry.
“Western North region is one of the cocoa growing regions in the country, and I trust the sector to focus much on the region especially the cocoa roads as announced by President Mahama during his Thank You Tour in the region to enhance cocoa production,” he added.
