Nigeria is the 5th largest cocoa producer globally, with about 290,000 annual tonnes of cocoa. Data for NBS shows that the country exported N35.4 billion worth of raw cocoa beans and 1.2 billion worth of cocoa butter in the first quarter of 2021.
However, with a large market of over 206 million consumers of imported processed cocoa products in Nigeria such as chocolate, the country is yet to fully take advantage of cocoa wealth by diversifying the processing of cocoa.
