Mr Daniel Noble Awume, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has called on residents in the Municipality to plant more trees to protect the environment.
He noted that planting a tree in their homes, communities and protecting the existing ones meant that they were planting for life which would benefit their generations.
Mr Awume said this when he planted a tree in Hohoe to mark this year’s Green Ghana Day.
He said his expectation was to see that the trees planted would meet the intended purpose for which they were planted.
He said the trees would also replace the depleted trees and vegetation adding that the Municipality was doing more in tree planting as a result of an existence of a project known as “Save River Dayi” which was carrying out activities to protect the eco-tourism.
A total of 50,000 tree seedlings have been allocated to the Assembly to be distributed to individuals and groups.
The Municipal National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and Municipal Education Directorates, have collaborated to mark the day with the supply of 10,725 seedlings for onward distribution to some 66 Basic and four Senior High Schools.
Mr Hilarius Gockel, Municipal Director, NADMO, said it had become necessary for school buildings and the environment in the Municipality from future windstorm disasters through tree planting adding that his expectation was to see trees planted were protected.
He called on staff and students at the beneficiary schools to plant more trees and make sure they nurtured them.
Mr Emmanuel Tsebie, Municipal Deputy Director in-charge of Planning and Statistics, said the trees would be distributed to the schools while encouraging the students to cultivate the habit of tree planting.
