The Oti Regional Forestry Commission has planned to restore its degraded forests and vegetation through the Rainforest Builder initiative, a transformative environmental project.
The initiative, which was launched in the Nkwanta South Municipality in the Oti Region, aimed to rejuvenate the local ecosystem while promoting sustainable livelihoods among residents.
Mr Joseph Kwame Antwi Awal, the Municipal Chief Executive of Nkwanta South, in a meeting with the leadership of the Rainforest Builder initiative, pledged his full support for the project.
He also highlighted the potential of the initiative not only to restore vital forest cover but also to create lasting socio- economic benefits for local communities.
The MCE described the initiative as a timely and powerful intervention, stating that the initiative was a game changer for municipality.
“We are committed to supporting this effort and ensuring that it benefits our communities and our environment,” he said.
Mr. Isaac Boamah Amankwah, the Nkwanta South Municipal Manager of the Forestry Commission, said the project would focus on reforesting the degraded lands, introducing sustainable agricultural practices, and engaging local youth and farmers in eco- friendly activities that build environmental resilience.
He said the project also aimed at combating climate change, restoring biodiversity, providing jobs, training, and new sources of income, particularly in rural areas that had been affected by environmental degradation.
Mr Boamah also stated that with a strong local leadership, meaningful collaboration, and a vision rooted in environmental stewardship, the municipality was poised to witness a new chapter of ecological renewal and inclusive growth.
“I therefore called on all stakeholders to collaborate with the Commission for successful implementation of this project,” Mr Boamah said.
