The Bono Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has arraigned three traders in the Bono East Region in court, facing prosecution, Mr Charles Gyamfi, a Regulatory Officer at the office has announced.

He said the suspects were in court for selling contaminated palm oil, laced with “Sudan Dye”, explaining that they were arrested at the Techiman central market in 2024 during a surveillance exercise, carried by the Authority at the market.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Gyamfi reminded traders that ‘Sudan dye’ was banned, warning that the Authority had intensified surveillance and culprits would be apprehended and face prosecution.

He explained that the exercise was conducted at some major markets in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions, saying that: “The Sudan dye is a dangerous substance and is prohibited.”

Mr Gyamfi cautioned traders to desist from using harmful chemicals in consumable products, saying that all other offenders would also face prosecution.

He said the Authority had also intensified public sensitization exercises which were making significant impacts and helping a lot in riding the various markets of substandard products and cosmetics.
