In South Sudan’s southeastern town of Kapoeta, livestock is livelihood for pastoralists like Lokuru.
The prolonged dry season had forced him to take his animals far from his village for grazing and increased the risk of conflict over water resources.
But with support of FAO through funding from the Africa Development Bank, in excavating a reservoir and providing a solar-powered water pump in his village, the 34-year-old pastoralist and his community now have enough water for the animals.
Implemented by FAO on behalf of the African Development Bank and the Government of South Sudan, the support is part of an initiative to boost the resilience and adaptive capacity of communities in the face of climate change.
