Thanks to funding from the Government of the Netherlands, FAO is carrying out a four-year Food and Nutrition Security Resilience Programme to strengthen food security, nutrition, livelihoods and resilience in conflict affected regions in the Horn of Africa.
To enhance inclusive access and management of natural resources, FAO is working with local community leaders and local and regional authorities to establish peacebuilding and conflict resolution mechanisms.
In addition, FAO is safeguarding people’s livestock assets and livelihoods by distributing drought resistant seeds, establishing cooperatives, increasing fodder processing and storage capacities, and developing 17 multipurpose livestock hubs. Through these initiatives, people are able to enhance fodder production, restore grazing lands and keep their livestock safe from drought
