AFRICA’s Largest Rice Mill Commissioned in Nigeria: President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the Lagos Rice Mill, Imota. The President, who was accompanied by the Chief Host and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), among others, inaugurated Lagos Rice Mill on Monday during his two-day working visit to Lagos State.
Lagos Rice Mill, Imota – what you should know;
– It is the largest mill in Africa and the third largest in the world.
– It sits on 22 hectares of land.
– The mill has the capacity to produce 32 tonnes per hour and 2.8 million 50kg bags yearly.
– It is an integrated mill with two warehouses and 16 silos.
– Each silo is 25 meters high with a 2,500-ton storage capacity for a combined 40,000 tonnes total storage capacity for the mill.
– The mill operates in two lines that receive, pre-clean, boil, dry, sort, hull, polish, and bag the rice.
– At full capacity, the mill will create 1,500 direct and 254,000 indirect #jobs.
– In October 2022, the Lagos State Government signed an agreement with WACOT Rice Limited, a subsidiary of TGI Group, to manage the Rice Mill.
Only local staff were used for the assembly of the mill.
The mill sits close to the Lekki Free Zone, a 16,500-hectare free trade area, the master plan for which also contains a proposed airport, a start-up community, and commercial and residential areas. https://lnkd.in/eF_eQNZH
